Perma SF- Do I need to buy EotN?
Ok so there are SF threads stacked like fatties at a free buffet, but I have not found what I'm looking for, sorry if this is a repeat of a thread somewhere.
Basically, I want to run my sin as a A/E perma SF, but don't have GoS- so, does that mean the A/E build is pretty much impossible for me? I would really rather go A/E than A/Me. Aside from the fact that the A/Me builds I found seem more annoying to maintain than an A/E (especially since I'm newbie at this and the UW, so keeping an eye on arcane echo and everything else while trying to find my way through the UW like a lost tourist doesn't seem like fun), some also use the Factions PvE-only skill and no ty, I don't want to get 100,000 faction to get it.
So- what it comes down to, I guess, other than buying Eotn (which I don't want; if I did get it it would just be for GoS, yay, Anet 1 : Me 0) is:
Is there a non-EotN, non grindy-ish PvE only skill A/E solo SF build I can run? And if not, how about one for A/Me that doesn't use Ether Nightmare? If you have one, please post. (And I have all of the other campaigns, though I'm iin the early-Elona part of NF.)

At a guess, without using cons/items, no.
EOTN has a few other decent skills, more notabley, Ursan for PvE......

Short answer - yes. You need EotN.
Longer answer - it can be run using the A/Me version but it takes way more coordination/skill to actually run and if you'd rather be an A/E then you're just screwed. You could technically using consumables be a perma-SF A/E but then you'd have to buy craploads of consumables from people at higher prices than they can be made in EotN (yet more reason why you'd really be better buying it).
Also the beauty of [Ether Nightmare] is that it's a strong hex spell that hits all enemies in the area, meaning [Cry of Pain] can be cast on anyone at any time to do your damage. Here's the best one I can come up with replacing it:
[Deadly Paradox][Arcane Echo][Shadow Form][Spirit of Failure][Soothing Images][Cry of Pain][Viper's Defense][Dark Escape]

Thank you for the replies. Oh well, I guess I can buy EotN sometime for $10-$15 online. I definitely would not pay the price they charge in the GW store. :O Until then, looks like I'll have to try a dif UW build on another char.

Would that be ultra-slow, having only [Viper's Defense] as offense?

This is why A-net buffed it, now you have to buy EotN for GoS, NF for DP, and factions for SF, its a brilliant marketing stragegy. Just get EotN it has some mildly redeeming features+ ursan I guess
Cry of pain is an offense too

You can buy a celerity off of someone and just use Deadly Paradox+SF to keep it up. However that can get pricey unless you have a guild member craft them for you.

Uhm run A/Me, it isnt much different, slower or harder, you have access to key a/me skills without eye anyway which are [ether nightmare] which you dont rly need to take you have [spirit of failure] alrdy for a hex and [cry of pain], people who cant run a/me well, suck and must uninstall srsly.

It's not hard running the A/Me build, it's just troublesome, having to keep track of how long SF has been up and when to use the echo'd version. I'd rather go A/E and use the easy way so I can watch TV or talk on the phone whilst gettin' rich.

Glad I am not the only one who watches tv while getting rich. But honestly I would buy eotn for perma shadow.

If you don't want to run your only non-EotN options using [Cry of Pain] and [Ether Nightmare], then yes, you need to buy EotN.
